The ex-Australian cricketer is facing 19 charges following his arrest last week
After being denied bail in a Sunshine Coast court, Michael Slater, the former Australian Test cricketer, collapsed.
Slater is confronting 19 charges linked to alleged offenses occurring on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on different dates between December 5, 2023, and April 12 of this year.
On Tuesday, in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court, the 54-year-old sought bail with the assistance of a Legal Aid duty lawyer, following a brief appearance in the same court the day before.
Slater faces charges related to domestic violence, including unlawful stalking or intimidation, breaking into a dwelling with intent at night, common assault, assault occasioning bodily harm, and choking or suffocation.
The former opening batter and TV commentator also faces charges of breaching bail and contravening a domestic violence order on 10 occasions.
Police confirmed they arrested a 54-year-old Noosa Heads man at a Sunshine Coast address on Friday following alleged domestic violence incidents over several days.
Slater was remanded in custody with his case due to be mentioned in the same court on May 31.
He collapsed on Tuesday while being taken away by guards.
Following his debut during the 1993 Ashes tour, Slater participated in 74 Tests for Australia, accumulating 5312 runs at an average of 42.83, including 14 centuries.
He participated in 42 one-day internationals as well. Slater concluded his cricketing career in 2004, transitioning into a prosperous television commentary career.
