Law enforcement is necessary to end violence against women and maintain social justice.

Morang: Stakeholders have said that the implementation of laws is necessary to end violence against women in the society and to maintain social justice.

The participants of the interaction regarding the existing legal system and implementation of women’s rights and interests organized by the National Women’s Commission in Biratnagar today expressed the view that violence will be reduced only if the government at all levels monitors the implementation of the laws related to women.

Srijana Danuwar, deputy speaker of Koshi province, while inaugurating the interaction, said that both women and men should be treated equally to build a better society. He opined that more movement is necessary to achieve the achievements provided by the state to women.

Kamala kumari Parajuli, the central chairperson of the Commission, suggested that the three-level government should arrange the necessary budget for women’s capacity development. Kedarnath Sharma, Permanent Chief Secretary of the province informed that the provincial ministry is responsible for women’s rights and admitted that law enforcement is weak in reducing violence against women.

Lakshmi Prasad Paudel, secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, Usha Jha, Deputy Coordinator of District Coordination Committee Morang, Prem Prasad Bhattarai, Chief District Officer of Morang emphasized that the necessary budget should be arranged to make women independent.

Durga Bhandari, head of the women’s department of the Ministry of Social Development, presented a working paper on the efforts of the Koshi state government on gender equality, women’s empowerment and the situation of gender-based violence.
