Sydney, Australia – The ‘NRNA Australia Foundation’, established by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Australia, has received official recognition from the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
During a press conference held on Friday, the organization’s President, Anil Pokharel, announced this significant achievement. The foundation has also obtained Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status, meaning any donations made to the foundation can now be tax-deductible.
Individuals or organizations donating to the NRNA Australia Foundation will be able to claim their annual tax refunds. President Pokharel expressed his happiness that the decision made in the first meeting of his tenure led to such quick registration and recognition.
He also mentioned plans to develop a framework for the foundation’s structure in the coming days, stating, “It might take four to five months, but we will build a structure that will manage this foundation.”
The foundation will operate as an autonomous body under NRNA Australia, serving not just the Nepali community in Australia but all communities through charitable work.
President Pokharel thanked all the pioneers for their contributions to this effort. Guests at the press conference also deemed this move historic and wished for its successful implementation.
Currently, the NRNA Australia Foundation has three board members, and a broader interaction with the community will be held to finalize its structure.
President Pokharel hinted that the term of office could be four years, but the decision will be made through collective discussion.
Former presidents, vice-presidents, and other key figures of NRNA also shared their views during the event, emphasizing the importance of this step for the Nepali community.
