A 27-year-old Nepali woman was found dead in a small park near Hyde Park in Sydney last Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as a woman with the surname Siwakoti from Jhapa, though her full identity has not been revealed due to privacy concerns. The New South Wales (NSW) police are conducting a serious investigation into the incident. Anil Pokharel, the president of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Australia, stated that they are in coordination with the victim’s family and will provide all necessary assistance. Pokharel expressed, “This tragic event has left us in shock. We will leave no stone unturned in seeking justice and providing support.”
The police have intensified their investigation to determine the cause of the woman’s death. She had gone missing on the night of September 8 while returning home from work. Although CCTV footage captured her last activities while returning from work, no contact could be made with her afterward. Her body was discovered in the park on Sunday night, leaving the Nepali community in shock.
Kul Bahadur Magar, the Counselor at the Nepali Embassy in Canberra, mentioned that the victim’s family has not reached out yet but assured, “We are always ready to provide the necessary assistance.”
The deceased had arrived in Australia just four months ago and was living in the Glenfield area of Sydney with her 45-year-old husband. She had recently started working. According to the NRNA president, once the investigation is completed, efforts will be made to repatriate the deceased’s body to Nepal.
This incident has created a sense of concern and mourning within the Nepali community.
