Her father, Lal Bahadur Basnet, worked at the Himal Cement Industry and is now involved in business, while her mother, Santa Kumari Basnet, still works at Tribhuvan University.

She completed her SLC from Radiant Academy in Sanepa and pursued higher education at Bernhardt College in Balkhu. Sabala excelled in dance and was also skilled in sports, particularly basketball and badminton.

In 2017, after a short love relationship that had the approval of both families, she got married and moved to Sydney, Australia, to pursue a Master’s in Professional Accounting (MPA). While living with relatives in Sydney, she worked in housekeeping and customer service. After completing her studies, she began working in the professional sector. Eight months later, her husband joined her in Australia, but due to misunderstandings, their marriage ended in divorce.

Following the divorce, Sabala decided to move forward without creating any disputes. She states, “The divorce wasn’t a desire, but the lack of warmth and understanding led to the end. Now, I want to focus on social work and bring change to others’ lives.”

After the divorce, Sabala fully dedicated herself to social work. She started her journey as a youth member of NRN Australia, showcasing her leadership skills. This led her to be appointed as the Sydney coordinator of the NRN Australia Women’s Organization. Currently, Sabala advocates for the rights of Nepali women who are victims of domestic violence and is fully committed to serving them.

Sabala Basnet’s life is a unique example of struggle and service. She remains steadfast in her mission to empower Nepali women. Her determination to inspire others through social work continues to strengthen the voice of women’s empowerment in the Nepali community.
