Kathmandu – The Airlines Operators Association has strongly demanded that the upgrade work on Tribhuvan International Airport be completed within the specified time. In a statement released on Wednesday, the association warned that member airlines might suffer financial losses and could face closure if the airport’s upgrade is not completed on time, urging concerned authorities to take action.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has planned an upgrade of Tribhuvan International Airport starting from November 8, which will last approximately five months. During this period, flight operations will be reduced, and the airport will close daily from 10 PM to 8 AM, as per the issued NOTAM (Notice to Airmen).

CAAN is confident that the construction work on the runway and the parallel taxiway linking roads will be completed within the set timeframe. However, the association cautioned that if construction is not finished by spring 2025, member airlines could face substantial financial losses, possibly leading to shutdowns. The association has urged relevant authorities to ensure timely completion.

Although the reduction in airport operating hours will lead to a cut of around 30% in flights for member airlines, the association maintains a positive view of the airport’s expansion and infrastructure development. It believes that, following the upgrades, airport operations will become smoother, more convenient, and accessible for both domestic and international airlines in the long run.
