The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued an emergency warning on Saturday due to heavy rainfall in Kagoshima and Okinawa, advising maximum caution with the potential risks of flooding and landslides.
According to the agency, adverse weather conditions have created an unstable atmosphere over Yoron City in Kagoshima, located in Okinawa Prefecture, leading to heavy rainfall. Yoron recorded 594 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, the highest amount since data collection began in 1978.
In Higashi Village, Okinawa, 442 mm of rainfall was recorded within 24 hours, with local authorities reporting landslide risks in flood-affected areas and predicting severe rainfall to continue into the evening.
Residents in these areas have been alerted to stay cautious regarding potential floods, landslides, and rising river levels.
