Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, who was arrested on charges of cybercrime, will also face accusations of forgery and defamation. While the initial investigation focuses on cybercrime, additional charges may be added based on further findings, according to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Deepak Thapa, head of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).
“Forgery and defamation charges have also surfaced, and legal proceedings will follow for those as well,” DIG Thapa stated. However, due to legal constraints that prevent multiple cases being pursued simultaneously, authorities will investigate one case at a time. “If further issues emerge, they will also be investigated,” he added. The charges against Prasai are being pursued based on a police report.
The police are seeking court approval to investigate forgery allegations against Prasai. He is accused of spreading serious allegations against Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli through social media. Additionally, he allegedly forged documents, including the Prime Minister’s signature, according to police claims.
Prasai was previously arrested on September 22 (Asoj 6) following a complaint filed by a central member of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). The cybercrime case is currently under review at the Kathmandu District Court. Prasai was released earlier on a bail of NPR 100,000 in connection to the same case.
