Sydney, Australia – The “Nepal Festival 2024,” organized to promote Nepalese art, culture, and traditions, was successfully concluded in Sydney, New South Wales (NSW). Held under the theme “One Nation, Many Stories,” the festival highlighted the unity, identity, and uniqueness of the Nepalese community within Sydney’s vibrant multicultural environment.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from thousands of Nepalese families, including parents, women, children, and youth. Additionally, members of Australian, Indian, and other multicultural communities attended, enjoying Nepalese cultural displays and traditional cuisine.
Cultural Parade Steals the Show
The festival’s main highlight was a cultural parade that temporarily halted traffic on Sydney’s main streets, showcasing the essence of Nepalese heritage. Starting at Town Hall and concluding at the event venue in Darling Harbour, the parade featured traditional music, Nepalese attire, and cultural performances, captivating spectators.
Distinguished Guests
NSW Premier Chris Minns attended the event for the first time, addressing the large Nepalese crowd and praising their cultural contributions. Opposition leader Mark Speakman and Multicultural Minister Steve Kamper also graced the occasion, further elevating the festival’s significance.
“Nepal House” Attraction
A special attraction, the “Nepal House,” exhibited handcrafted models of iconic Nepalese landmarks such as the Dharahara and Boudhanath Stupa. These exhibits provided attendees with a glimpse into Nepal’s rich cultural heritage.
A 12-Hour Celebration
The 12-hour festival featured over 35 stalls displaying Nepalese cuisine, handicrafts, and commercial products. Popular artists like Astha Raut, Hemant Sharma, and X Band entertained the crowd with live musical performances, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Support and Acknowledgments
The Australian government contributed AUD 50,000 to support the event. Grace International Education and Visa served as the festival’s chief sponsor. NRN Australia President Anil Pokhrel emphasized the festival’s role in uniting the Nepalese community and promoting Nepalese culture on a global stage.
NRNA Australia’s Media Coordinator and senior journalist Hemanta Kafle led the media management team, ensuring effective coverage of the festival.
