In the federal capital, Kathmandu, Prithvi Narayan Shah’s birth anniversary and National Unity Day have been celebrated. On Saturday morning, the 303rd Prithvi Jayanti was observed by garlanding the statue of Prithvi Narayan Shah at the west gate of Singha Durbar.

During the program organized to mark Prithvi Jayanti, participants paid tribute by garlanding the statue of Prithvi Narayan Shah located in front of the main gate of Singha Durbar. Along with the garlanding ceremony, a team from the Nepalese Army also paid their respects to Prithvi Narayan Shah.

Every year on 27th Poush, Prithvi Jayanti is celebrated in Kathmandu with grandeur. Prithvi Narayan Shah was born on 27th Poush, 1779 B.S., in Gorkha to King Nara Bhupal Shah and Queen Kaushalyawati. He ascended the throne on 25th Chaitra, 1799 B.S. Before his reign, Nepal was divided into 52 states.

After becoming king, Prithvi Narayan Shah successfully expanded Nepal’s territory from the Tista River in the east to the Chepe River in the west. Following his demise, his successors extended Nepal’s territory further west to Fort Kangra, as recorded in history.
