Nepal lost their opening match of the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup cricket tournament to Bangladesh by five wickets. Chasing Nepal’s target of 53 runs, Bangladesh reached the goal in 13.2 overs with the loss of five wickets. For Bangladesh, Sadia Islam scored 16 runs off 24 balls, hitting one boundary. Sumaiya Attar added 12 runs, and Afiya Ashima Ira contributed 9 runs. In bowling, Nepal’s Rachana Chaudhary, Riya Sharma, Simana KC, and Pooja Mahato each took one wicket. Batting first after losing the toss, Nepal was all out for 52 runs in 18.2 overs.
Nepal’s opener Sana Prabin top-scored with 19 runs off 32 balls, while Simana KC added 10 runs. However, no other Nepali batter could reach double figures. Captain Pooja Mahato was dismissed for 2 runs, Alisha Yadav scored 4 runs, and both Tirsana Bik and Rachana Chaudhary managed 3 runs each, while Riya Sharma remained unbeaten on 5 runs. For Bangladesh, Janatheen Maola claimed two wickets, while Anisa Sowa, Foyomodi Choya, and Nishita Akhter each took one wicket. Nepal’s second match is scheduled against Scotland on Magh 7 (January 21, 2025).
Nepal is in Group D, alongside Bangladesh, Scotland, and Australia. To qualify for the Super-6 stage, Nepal must win at least one game. In the same group, Australia defeated Scotland by 9 wickets in another match played today.
