First – ever election in the Auburn Nepali community – Arun Shrestha elected as president

The annual general meeting (AGM) of the Sydney-Auburn Nepali community was concluded on Monday. With the completion of Jitendra Shrestha’s tenure as president, Arun Shrestha has been elected as the new president. For the first time in Auburn’s history, the president was chosen through an election process. Arun Shrestha and Uddhav Pokharel competed for the position of president. In an election with significant participation from the Nepali community, Arun Shrestha secured victory by a large margin.

Heman Lamichhane has been elected as Vice President, Sahanseela Shrestha as Women’s Vice President, Dipendra Ghimire as General Secretary, Basanta Pandey as Secretary, and Janak Pradhan as Treasurer. Similarly, the elected executive members are Suraj Budhathoki, Sakina Thapa, Navaraj Timilsina, Sridhar Acharya, Riwaj Mainali, Yubaraj Ghimire, Pujan Gadtoula, Navin Chaulagain, Bimarsha Pandey, Bibek Ojha, and Krisham Khadka. The event, held at Auburn Park, was attended by NRNA Australia President Anil Pokharel, NRNA Regional Coordinator Dinesh Pokharel, representatives from various organizations, and a large number of members from the local Nepali community.

After the election was concluded, outgoing president Jitendra Shrestha expressed his gratitude to his entire team and the Nepali community for their support in successfully completing his tenure. He extended his best wishes to the newly elected president, Arun Shrestha. He also assured that he would continue to support and assist the new leadership as before and expressed his hope that they would work even more effectively for the benefit of the community.

Similarly, NRNA Australia Regional Coordinator Dinesh Pokharel highlighted his longstanding connection with the Auburn Nepali community and extended his best wishes for a successful tenure to the newly elected leadership. Election Committee Coordinator Hemant Kafle expressed his happiness over the first-ever fair, well-organized, and dispute-free election in Auburn’s history. He stated that this historic election would further unite and strengthen the Auburn Nepali community.

Newly elected president Arun Shrestha expressed his gratitude to the entire community for supporting his team’s victory. He acknowledged and appreciated the love and support received from former president Jitendra Shrestha and senior members. He pledged to prioritize the welfare and development of the community and committed to working collaboratively with NRNA and other organizations to make his tenure effective.

Arun Shrestha is regarded as a popular leader among the youth and the Nepali community. The Auburn Nepali community has pledged its support for the new leadership and expects more impactful programs and initiatives in the coming days.
