Jajarkot — On Kartik 18, 2077 BS, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck Jajarkot, completely destroying the building of Shree Shankar Bhawan Secondary School located in Bahunthana, Bheri Municipality-2. The school’s reconstruction was completed with the initiative of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Australia.

The reconstruction project was completed at a total cost equivalent to 40,000 Australian dollars. Out of this, NRNA Australia raised 25,000 dollars, while the remaining amount was covered through local resources and voluntary labor.

The school building was inaugurated on Friday during a formal program attended by NRNA Australia’s President Anil Pokharel, Regional Coordinator Dinesh Pokharel, and Queensland Coordinator Shambhu Ghaisi.

During the ceremony, President Pokharel emphasized that Nepalis living abroad are always ready to support their homeland during times of hardship. “Through this initiative, we want to show that even a small contribution from the Nepali diaspora can make a big impact during local crises,” he said.

The school management committee, local representatives, and parents expressed their gratitude toward NRNA Australia. Locals expressed hope that after the reconstruction, children will now be able to study in a safe and comfortable environment.
