Sydney – The Bella Vista Psychiatry and Wellbeing Clinic, established by the Nepali community in Bella Vista, Sydney, Australia, was inaugurated in a grand ceremony. The clinic, located at Level 1, Unit 20, 29–31 Lexington Drive, was jointly inaugurated by the Honorary Consul General for New South Wales, Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, psychiatrist Dr. Ghanshyam Chapagain, and Dr. Vikas Shrestha.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent members of the Nepali community, including healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs, social workers, and representatives from various sectors. The event began with traditional rituals, and Dr. Chapagain shared the clinic’s purpose, explaining that it will provide counseling, treatment, and medication management services to address mental health challenges.
“We believe the Bella Vista Psychiatry and Wellbeing Clinic will play an effective role in identifying, preventing, and managing mental health issues within the Nepali community,” said Dr. Chapagain. According to him, the clinic currently has two full-time psychologists and is preparing to expand its services in the near future.
Clinic co-founder and coordinator of Nari Nikunja Australia, Sangeeta Chapagain, expressed gratitude to the attendees, saying, “We feel proud to have launched this initiative in collaboration with our family, friends, and the wider community.” She mentioned that the support, goodwill, and trust received from the community have been a great source of inspiration.
Statistics show that nearly half of Australia’s adult population experiences mental health issues at some point in their lives. In such cases, access to culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate healthcare professionals becomes particularly important for migrant communities.
The clinic plans to organize awareness programs on mental health, community-focused seminars, and free health screening camps in the near future.
