“Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Honored in the United States”

Kathmandu. The Deputy Speaker of Nepal’s House of Representatives, Indira Rana Magar, has been specially honored by the Boston City Council of the United States for her contribution to social justice and services for children of prisoners.

For the past 18 years, Rana Magar has been providing shelter, education, and care to children whose parents are in police custody. Recognizing her selfless service, which has brought positive changes to the lives of thousands of children, the honor was conferred upon her. At a ceremony held on Thursday, Councilor-at-Large Erin Murphy presented her with the honor.

The Boston City Council stated that the recognition was given in high appreciation of her dedication to social justice and the welfare of helpless children. Deputy Speaker Rana has positively transformed the lives of more than 2,000 children, providing them with education, shelter, and opportunities for a brighter future.

At the program, she shared her experiences in social service, Nepal’s progress in the areas of women and children, and views on proportional inclusion. Rana is currently on a visit to the United States to participate in a high-level dialogue organized by the Boston City Council on the theme “Democratic Progress, Challenges, and Opportunities in Nepal and the United States.”
