Canberra – Nepali Ambassador to Australia, Chettra Lekha Yadav, is scheduled to present her credentials to Australia’s Governor-General, Sam Mostyn, today, as confirmed by the Nepali Embassy. Following this, she will formally assume her duties. Since arriving in Australia, Ambassador Yadav has been actively participating in various public events within the Nepali community.
Recently, she officially inaugurated the Consulate General Office in Sydney. According to embassy sources, after presenting her credentials, Ambassador Yadav is set to prioritize strengthening Nepal-Australia relations, ensuring the rights of Nepali immigrants, and enhancing governmental ties. With extensive experience in Nepali politics, Yadav has served as a former Deputy Speaker and Minister. Among the Nepali ambassadors appointed to Australia so far, she is the first woman ambassador to have held such a high-ranking governmental position in Nepal.
A community leader noted, “Her popularity seems to be rising in a short period. Her public statements have given hope to the Nepali community here that their issues will be addressed. However, the effectiveness of her tenure will depend on her diplomatic efforts.” Her tenure is expected to be significant in further strengthening the 64-year-long diplomatic ties between Nepal and Australia.
